Yeoded - Open Your Heart

Many children in our communities grow up in single parent homes. Yeoded attempts to fill that void by providing tutors and mentors to ensure these children’s academic and social growth.

From Mendy Pellin: "Need a little hope in your life? Visit Yitzi Hurwitz.

The hope from the visit doesn't come in the form of perspective. That he can only move his eyes. The rest of his body is a prison for his mind. His ALS is not what gives you hope. His spirit is what gives you hope. The same as it did 5 years ago when he was jumping around with a guitar putting a smile on your face.

I recently visited Yitzi with some friends - Benny Friedman, Bentzi Marcus of 8th Day and Eli Schwebel.

At the start of our visit, Yitzi gave us a D'Var Torah that he typed up using his eyes the computer. After some singing, he wrote "Yesh Tikvah" on the computer - which means "there's hope" - the chorus lyrics to Benny's hit song.

While we sang the song I noticed him staring intensely at the computer. When the song was done, I realized that he had typed up something you can hear at the end of this video.

There was an amazing energy of hope during our visit. I'm trying to hold on to some of it to drag into my every day routine.

I'm starting to think that we understood wrong. He wasn't requesting a song... he was just telling us with the movement of his eyes that there is hope. Don't give up!

Aside for my little "guitar solo" this song actually sounds pretty beautiful unplugged.. Enjoy this nugget of hope...
